Aquinox's lead drug candidate, rosiptor (AQX-1125), is in Phase 3 development for the treatment of patients with interstitial cystitis/bladder pain syndrome (IC/BPS), a debilitating condition marked by chronic pain and urinary symptoms, for which there are currently few FDA approved and/or effective treatment options. Rosiptor has a novel mechanism of action, activating SHIP1 (SH2-containing inositol-5'-phosphatase 1), an enzyme that serves to down-regulate inflammation through its role in the PI3K signaling pathway. Rosiptor has been generally well tolerated in multiple completed clinical studies, with more than 395 subjects dosed.

The Location of the Position:
This position will be located in our San Bruno, CA office.

The Opportunity:
Reporting to the Vice President, Human Resources and Administration, the Director, Human Resources and Senior Business Partner will lead and/or support a wide range of HR programs and client groups. Specifically, the Director will:

  • Provide expert counsel for assigned groups in California and British Columbia on all Human Resource (HR) programs – workforce planning, recruitment, performance management, compensation, training and development, employee engagement and relations - partner with business and science leaders to coach and to ensure HR programs are optimally leveraged by managers and employees to positively impact employee attraction, orientation, engagement, development and retention
  • Act as HR lead for US and California policy and legal (related to employment, human rights, immigration), EEO-1 compliance and reporting and California benefits
  • Act as HR functional lead in two or more of the following areas:
    • recruitment (brand, marketing and candidate sourcing, selection, hire and relocation) 
    • learning and development (orientation to business and leadership programs to inclusion and diversity) 
    • performance management and competency modeling
    • total compensation (base, bonus, equity, benefits) and recognition
  • Human Resource Management System (selection, implementation, operations, metrics and reporting)
  • Collaborate with Human Resources colleagues in Canada on issues related to assigned employees living and working in British Columbia and conversely, collaborate on issues related to US employees
  • Develop, facilitate and support new and evolving business systems, structures and processes to enable rapid growth and change
  • Act as a champion for Aquinox’s culture and values
  • Plan and/or support actions as needed arising from organizational health and effectiveness survey(s)

Education and Experience:

  • Minimum relevant undergraduate degree; Master’s degree strongly preferred; Human Resource certification preferred
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in Human Resources management and/or business partner role in public, multi-national company - preferred in life sciences/pharma or engineering/technology – experiencing rapid growth and change 
  • Knowledge of and experience with California employment and human rights laws and US immigration and privacy laws, including HIPPA
